Location, Location, Location – May 3, 2011

So, I feel like we’ve highlighted a somewhat similar location-based app in the recent past, but Localmind is a new service that is being described as Q&A layered on top of locations, which is exactly what it is. Even more interestingly, however, is that the location-based Q&A is layered on top of Foursquare, Facebook Places, and Gowalla check-ins, so that if other users have questions about those locations, the user who has checked in can receive them once he or she has actually checked in, and potentially provide an answer from first-hand experience… [Mashable]

Meanwhile, another relatively new service is Gogobot, which allows users to essentially create a digital trail of their various adventures, not unlike other location-based services, even if it seems more focused on travel. It’s also a service that just expanded its geolocation data potential by integrating Foursquare and Facebook Places, so as users check in to locations on those services, they can push those check-ins (automatically), and the data behind them, to Gogobot… [TechCrunch]

First of all, we’re not afraid to admit we had no idea the location-based service SCVNGR had been valued at $100 million. Second of all, here’s a pretty comprehensive profile of the company, its app and what makes it “different” from its competitors, and its “whiz kid” founder, the 22-year-old Seth Prietbasch… [Fortune]

And while we’re on the subject, apparently in advance of The Hangover 2, being released at the end of this month, 7-11 has partnered with the movie’s studio to put together a SCVNGR hunt for would-be moviegoers. Users can earn points for checking in to 7-11 locations and performing certain specific tasks, which can later be exchanged for “prizes including temporary tattoos, T-shirts, 7-Eleven gift cards, movie tickets and a chance to win a Las Vegas trip”… [Mashable]

Finally, I’m not sure how many European-specific Foursquare badges there are (at least in contrast to Foursquare badges in general), but the latest for European Foursquare users (and travelers from other parts) is Lufthansa’s special badge for the Eurovision song contest, taking place in Düsseldorf from May 12 to May 15. Users who follow Lufthansa on Foursquare and check in to two airports Lufthansa serves (in “participating Eurovision countries or viewing-party locations around the world”)… [About Foursquare]
